
Kelly Grubb
Principal - Structural Engineer
Kelly Grubb is the founder and principal structural engineer of Grubb Engineering located in Red Deer, Alberta. He holds a MEng in Civil Engineering specializing in Structural Engineering and has over 20 years experience in the structural design of many types of building structures utilizing all major structural engineering materials including wood (heavy timber, glulam, log, conventional and engineered lumber products), steel (conventional, composite, and cold-formed), aluminum, concrete (cast in place and precast), composite materials and masonry. The majority of his experience is in Alberta but he has also worked on many projects across Western Canada, and is one of a few structural engineers outside of British Columbia to have obtained a StructEng designation within that province. He has worked on buildings of all shapes and sizes from single storey commercial buildings to high rise condos and institutional projects.
His vision is to create a highly respected structural consulting team that is capable of delivering technically proficient designs that are also practical and budget conscious with focus on value added process and integrated BIM delivery.
Andy Smith
Senior Associate - Structural Engineer
Andy has over 15 years of structural engineering experience, in the UK and Canada. He has worked on projects ranging from Hotels to Car Dealerships, National Training Centres to Oilfield Shop/Offices and Firehalls to Townhouses. Andy is a graduate of the University of Cambridge in the UK, and has research experience in floor vibrations and steel-concrete composite structures.
Andy is the office manager for Grubb Engineering, and takes a lead role in most of the projects that come through the office. He believes in producing efficient designs that complement the architectural requirements for the space, and values good communication between clients, consultants and contractors to provide the best solutions for everyone in each case.
Andy is a Professional Engineer registered in Alberta, Saskachewan and Manitoba. He is a member of the Building Sub-Council for the Alberta Safety Codes Council, and is also participates in committee work for APEGA.
Carl Dies
Senior Associate - Structural Technologist
Carl has over 15 years experience of architectural and structural drafting and design. He has worked on hundreds of projects, from single story offices to multi-level parkades, and almost everything in between. Carl has fully embraced all the possibilities of REVIT and strives to continually push the structural aspects of the software to its limits. He firmly believes that the more conflicts you can solve in 3D during design, the fewer conflicts you will have on site.
Carl is quality control for Grubb Engineering and coordinates most of the projects that come through the office. He also reviews our drawings to ensure they are high quality construction documents that can be used on site. Carl leads our specialty projects for fabricators, ensuring full BIM 3D models can be delivered from our team directly to manufacturers for production.
